The Original POCET™
The Original POCET™ Program helps you organize, track and assess learning
for up to 25 children, ages 3 to 5 years. Unlike other products, POCET™ is
easy to use, works with any curriculum, and its Developmental Guidelines are presented
in developmentally appropriate order. With POCET ™, it's easy to individualize
instruction and keep parents informed.

STEP 1
Identify Appropriate Sequence of
Preschool Skills
|

The Developmental Guidelines describe appropriate preschool skills, in developmental
order, across eight domains of learning: Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Social/Emotional
Development, Creative Arts, Approaches to Learning, Science, and Physical Health/Safety.

STEP 2
Provide Skill Development
|
|
Four basic activities are included for each of the 68 Developmental Guidelines to
support skill progression: that's 272 activities!

STEP 3
Record Individual Progress
|
|
Developmental Checklist Folders allow you to track each child's individual progress,
to share with parents and to send on to the kindergarten teacher. 25 folders included!

Formally Assess

A regular, ongoing assessment of Reading and Mathematics gives you a picture of
how each child is functioning, and where more support is needed.

POCET™ - Infant and Toddler
POCET™ Infant and Toddler contains two complete and separate
easy-to-use programs: one for infants, ages birth to 18 months, and one for toddlers,
ages 18 to 36 months. Each program allows the teacher to track development by identifying
developmental milestones for infants and toddlers, and each program offers age-
appropriate activities and experiences. POCET™ Infant and Toddler will help
to tailor interactions, routines, materials and activities to each child's individual
needs.

STEP 1
Identify Appropriate Sequence
of Developmental Stages
|
|
Developmental Guidelines included in each program provide a scope and sequence of
the developmental stages that occur during a child's first 18 months and also the
stages and skills that emerge during a child's toddler months.
|
|
|

STEP 2
Provide Support for Skill
Development
|
|
Each program offers three suggested experiences or activities that help caregivers
and teachers support and encourage a child's progress toward each new skill or behavior
described in the Developmental Guidelines.

STEP 3
Record Individual Progress
|
|
Developmental Checklist Folders provide an easy way to organize individualized data
on each infant or toddler's progress. The Checklist Folder can be updated to record
each child's progress, which can be shared regularly with parents.

|
STEP 4
Use Data to Inform Care and Instruction
|
|
POCET™ Infant and Toddler provides Individual Care Plans for up to 10 infants,
and Group Lesson Plans for toddlers. Caregivers and teachers can use information
gathered in the Checklist Folders and previous plans to create individualized Care
Plans and Lesson Plans.

|
The POCET™ program was developed for Excelligence by John
Funk. Mr. Funk has worked in the early childhood field since 1979. He has taught
preschool, first and second grades, and spent the largest part of his teaching career
in kindergarten. Mr. Funk was named �Utah Teacher of the Year� in 1996. He has worked
as an early childhood specialist for a large school district and has managed early
childhood services for Salt Lake CAP Head Start. He is past president of the Utah
AEYC. As an early childhood, reading and literacy consultant for the last decade,
he has written on early childhood subjects and products for McGraw Hill and Leap
Frog. He serves on the editorial panel for Young Children magazine published by
NAEYC. Currently, Mr. Funk is the Manager of Educational Programs for Excelligence
Learning Corporation, and he teaches courses in children's literature and early
reading at the University of Utah. Mr. Funk authors his own blog, Topics in Early Childhood Education.
